7th child of a 11 piece family, Omar Sahnoun made his own guitar at 12/13 years old using a simple board, an motor oil can and fishing string. He started singing the love songs of the immense Cheikh El Hasnaoui. After performing in many village parties and weddings, Omar Sahnoun recorded his first album in 1980 in Azazga, accompagned by the derbouka of Moh Achour Belghezli.
His first succes came a year after with "Mebrouk a fatma, Mebrouk delave", followed by several albums untill 1989 and a break.
In 1998 Omar is coming back with a new artistical orientation, focusing on more political lyrics about the situation in Algeria and sound influenced by Chaabi.
A new album in 1999 including a tribute to Matoub Lounes "Aqlay Da".
His new album coming out in 2000 "Agelid" sounds like the pinnacle of his success.
